Princess Salme Spice Tour (Full Day Tour)

The legendary Princess Salme sent shockwaves through Zanzibar and remains unforgotten! Experience the famous Spice Island while following her footsteps.

Your tour begins with a morning sailing cruise on a traditional dhow along Stone Town's famous seafront to the Mtoni Palace ruins. This impressive site was once home of the first Sultan of Zanzibar and the birthplace of his daughter Sayyida Salme, who later eloped with a German merchant to live in Hamburg; her bestselling book gives a lot of interesting details about her life in the palace. Wander around the extensive ruins with your guide, while he brings this important part of Zanzibar’s history to life for you.

You'll be treated to a traditional coffee ceremony and enjoy Zanzibari sweets, before a 25 minutes' drive takes you to the island's spice farm area. Your tour continues with a leisurely walk around a lovely spice plantation, where you will see, learn about, and taste the abundance of spices, fruits and herbal remedies grown in Zanzibar. To round off the experience, you will be served a delicious home-cooked lunch, surrounded by the sights and sounds of Zanzibar’s countryside. Then, you will visit the Persian Baths in Kidichi, built for Sultan Seyyid Said’s second wife, Sheherazade, who was the granddaughter of the Persian Shah, where the tour ends.

BE WELL PREPARED:

* For a single traveler or couples this tour is quite expensive, especially since we signed a special co-operation with the founder & couriator of the Princess Salme Museum. That means we include a visit to the museum at the beginning or end of the tour and Mr. Said El-Geithy comes exclusively for our guests to Mtoni Palace in order to give our guests a deeper and complete insight into Zanzibar's history at the time of the sultans and princesses than our guides could give. To exclude this special arrangment would reduce the tour price.
