Nungwi remains the most popular beach in Zanzibar. Also, most companies stay open during the low season. Just know that the place differs from others. You benefit from many restaurants and bars. The best dive sites open their doors to fans of this activity.

The fish market is worth a visit. At 4 pm, you will watch the fishermen set off for a night of capture aboard their white-walled dhow. It's a beautiful painting. Do not hesitate to keep the image by photos! They return the next morning around 7 am with all kinds of fish that they expose for sale. Pick up a tuna at the auction of the best catch. Nearby you will find a dhow workshop where you can learn the manufacturing techniques of this boat.

Matemwe is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Zanzibar. How do you disagree with this real postcard landscape? Long and wide, the beach is bordered on one side by turquoise water, and on the other by coconut trees and other exotic trees offering natural shade. Here, despite the boom in tourism, we still live fishing. You can also explore the seabed by scuba diving or snorkelling and meet exotic and colourful species. Throughout these 10 kilometers of beaches, the local culture remains largely preserved and the inhabitants do everything to maintain their way of life.

The entire east coast of Zanzibar is actually a very long and beautiful beach. A turquoise paradise for swimming at high tide, interminable foreshore of white sand that is discovered at low tide. Both have their charm and interest. In Jambiani and Paje, there is a high amplitude of tide which bellows to cultivate seaweed.

About the beach here...

This place is known for being the starting point for sea excursions to meet dolphins, that we do not recommend to do because it is not sustainable. These tours don't respect the Menai Bay Conservation Area guidelines which we follow.

However, you can enjoy the fine white sand, the turquoise water and watch the fishermen come back from their fishing.

  • Pemba Lodge - Kiweni Island

Pemba Lodge has only 5 cottages, which guarantees a peaceful and relaxed place. The emphasis is on simplicity, being at one with the environment. Pemba is a treasure trove of marine life, better suited to experienced divers due to strong currents. Pemba’s corals are pristine and the Misali Island conservation area is rich in diversity, with over 40 species of coral, 350 species of fish and 5 species of sea turtles. Out on the reefs, snapper schools swim around Coral Mountain, eagle and manta rays glide through the water, while lobsters peer out at divers from coral shelves.
